What's a party without games?

Games can make or break your party and selecting a good variety of games is important so that there is something for everyone.  When deciding on what games to choose it may be helpful to first consider the following:

  • Budget
  • Age group of guests
  • Number of guests
  • Party area space
  • Time

Read about all our fun Disney Cars games and choose your child's favorite games for a great birthday party.

Disney Cars Game 1

Piston Cup Race (Cardboard Box)

Disney Cars Cardboard Box

How Cool Are these Box Cars?

Cardboard Box Race

This is SOOOO much FUN!!

GAME 1

1. Make cardboard box cars for each child. They don't have to be perfect  but make sure to get boxes big enough for the child to fit into but not too big or it will be hard for them to run around with them (plus you'll have to use more paint). Make sure to put openings on either side of the box for the hands.

2. Draw a track (figure 8 or anything that curls around) on the ground for kids to follow. Use Spray paint, chalk or black plastic trash bags and masking or electrical tape to make the track.

GAME 2

1. For a "super cool" car race, place obstacles along your track to make this car race the hit of your party.

2. Use any or all of the following to add extra fun and challenge to the race.

  • Tires
  • Orange Cones
  • Mound of Leaves or Dirt (or something where they have to go up and down safely).
  • Homemade Tunnel - place 2 large cardboard boxes about 3 feet apart, throw a sheet over the 2 boxes to create a tunnel.
  • Buckets
  • Cardboard boxes - wrap these in "cool" wrapping paper or paint in bright colors or checkerboard print.
  • Hula Hoops - scatter a few of these and kids have to jump in each one as part of the race.
  • Freesbies or Discs
  • Inflatables
  • Mini Trampoline
  • Draw Hopscotch squares with chalk or masking tape

Disney Cars Game 2

Radiator Springs Race

"Oh! I Am So Gonna WIN!"

Play different car games (you want to make use of those box cars you made).  Here are a variety of games to play,

  • Relay Race
  • Backward Race (Mater's an expert at this one)
  • Sideways Race
  • Freeze Dance Game
  • Red Light Green Light Game
  • Parade of Cars
  • Freestyle Dance to song "Life is a Highway - Can do part of song with instructions by having a designated person give instructions during dance like:

              Jump

              Turn to the right

              Turn to the left

               Sit Down and get up

               Step forward, back, side

  • Every guest is a winner, can give small prize to each guest or just yell " Vroom Vroom"!

Disney Cars Game 3

Decorate Lightning McQueen

Decorate Lightning McQueen with Stickers & Decals

  1. Purchase a Lightning McQueen wall shaped decal or make your own from a large cardboard box or poster board.
  2. Buy or make stickers and let your guests decorate the car.
  3. For bigger stickers, print the signs you like (like Rust-eze decal) on sticker paper and then cut out.  You can make lots of beautiful stickers using the Cars logos below.
  4. When your guests are done decorating, take a group picture and send to your guests as a thank you.

Disney Cars Game 4

Lightning McQueen Scavenger Hunt

  1. Cut out the shape of the Lighting McQueen car from a large cardboard box (refrigerator boxes work well for this).  Make sure the car is big enough for all the car parts to fit on it.  Place double sided tape (removable is better) or glue dots on the car, where the car parts are supposed to go.

     2.  Make car parts:

  • Tires
  • Hubcaps
  • Lightning McQueen signature
  • Number 95
  • Lightning bolt
  • Eyes
  • Windows
  • Gas cap
  • Rust-eze sign
  • Sponsor decals  (see logos below)

     3.  Hide all the car parts around the party area and have the children go on a car parts scavenger hunt.  If you only have 1 car part per child let them know that once they find one they can place it on the car and they are done.  To make the game last longer you can make lots of stickers by printing the logos below.  Don't make them too big so there is space for plenty of stickers on the car.  If you have a lot of guests you might want to make 2 cars cutouts, one facing right and one facing left so it's both sides of the car.

    4.  Have each child find at least one car part.  When your guests have placed all the parts, take a group picture.  send it to your guests with a thank you note.

Disney Cars Sponsor Logos

I am so excited!, I can't wait to share this with you.  Dean from carsthetoys.com has been generous enough to give us permission to share his Disney Cars logos.  These are just some of their logos, aren't they beautiful?  I feel like I found treasure!  There are so many games you can play using these logos.

Disney Cars Games 5

Musical Tire Game

Purchase real used tires (about $2 each) or inflatable tires (can sometimes find at dollar store).  Scatter them around in somewahat of a circle then while playing songs from the Cars movie soundtrack, play the same way you would traditional musical chairs.  To listen to the songs from the different Disney Cars CD, visit our Cars Movie Soundtrack Page.

How to Play:

  1. Have the children go around the outside of the circle of tires while the music is playing.  When the music stops (have volunteer stop music at different intervals) the children must find a tire to sit on.  whomever is left without a tire is out and then you repeat the process until there is only one child left.

Disney Cars Games 6

Piston cup MINI Car Race

Kids love racing cars and this game is easy to put together. Use a homemade (I used a window shutter panel) or bought ramp and have your guests take turns racing their cars.

Note: Make sure to have one car for every child, which can also serve as a party favor.

Here's another version (much cooler) of a homemade race track.  This track is a lot of fun but you have to be handy with tools (or know someone who is).

Disney Cars Games 7

Tire Toss

This tire bean bag toss game is fun for all ages. Pull your spare tire out of your car, put some rice in several sandwich plastic baggies, tie baggies with a knot and you have yourself a birthday party game in minutes.

Car Wash

Kids Car Wash

How Much FUN is this?

Cars need to get washed so why not have a car wash?  I can hear the laughter from here.  Little ones will sure have a blast "driving" through this car wash.

Build from pvc pipes and use

  • plastic tablecloths ($1.00 at Dollar stores).  Cut into 3" (7.6cm) wide long strips (but not touching the floor).
  • Hang large colorful sponges from strings long enough that the sponges touch the children's head but no longer so sponges don't get tangled with kids or cars.
  • Add organic soap suds at middle of the car wash
  • Set sprinklers or hose in the direction of the "car wash" and enjoy watching the kids have fun.
  • Play Disney Cars movie music for extra fun!

Tip:  If sprinklers are not available, attach a sprinkler head to hose.  There are many styles of sprinkler heads, below are 2 examples.  Click on picture for more information or just search "sprinkler head" on the internet.

If you want a waterless car wash, just add enough fun by adding

  • Soft bristle brushes
  • Bubbles
  • Extra pieces of tablecloth strips
  • Hanging soft washcloths like the sponges
  • Soap suds

Favorite Kids Fun-filled Sprinklers

Noodlehead Sprinkler

This is our favorite sprinkler for kids water fun because of it's versatility. The water flow is adjustable which is perfect for a kids party, especially a car wash.  You can adjust each noodle to control where the water goes (you don't want water going everywhere).  It's fun, affordable and easy to use.

Spot Sprinkler

This spot sprinkler is great for a children's party especially for little ones.  Hours of entertainment and fun outdoor play.  There are no moving parts and you can control the flow of water which is perfect for kids water fun.

Having a party indoors and want an Indoor Car Wash?

No Problem!

Here's a great idea Dawn from Dawnsddivinedelights had for her son's 5th birthday party....an indoor car wash.   Buy dollar store tablecloths and cut into strips.  Tape to ceiling and add colorful balloons to the ends of some of the strips.  Try not to make them too long or they could get tangled.  You could also use streamers instead of the tablecloth strips but they may not last as long.  So inexpensive and so much fun.

Add about 10 streamers to the top of the door frame at the end of the hall or "car wash" long enough to touch their knees so they can come out "squeaky clean"... and because it's fun!

Disney Cars Games 10

Hubcaps Game

Make these quick and easy paper plate hubcaps for practically nothing and use them for games and activities.

Game Idea - Hang homemade paper plate hubcaps on a string like a clothesline and have kids throw a soft ball and see if they can hit it (like a carnival came).

Activity Idea - Have children create their own hubcaps using paper plates and aluminum foil

To make these super easy paper plate hubcaps visit our Disney Cars Crafts Page HERE.

Disney Cars Activity 12

FREE Disney Cars Coloring Pages

Kids love to color and display their artwork. This is a great activity for kids birthday parties.  Have your guests color their favorite Disney Cars  character and hang on a line with clothespins.  To make the line, simply hang a string from one area of the party to another area.  Displaying their coloring pages makes a great banner and serves as a decoration and something to take home after the party.

Disney Cars Games 13

Radiator Springs

Recreating Radiator Springs can be as elaborate as making 6' (1.8 meters) mini recreations of the different stores or as simple as drawing it on cement with sidewalk chalk.  Other ideas are making a tabletop version, something like the size of a school backpack and placing it on top of a table where kids can see it.  You can just draw it or print your favorite image from the internet and glue onto poster board.  Or even easier is drawing the "store" on a poster board and standing it up on a make-shift easel, taped to the front of the table at that station, against a tree or chair, or hanging it from a string like clothes on a clothesline.  The idea if for your guests to recognize each different store (station).

Materials:

  • Large appliance cardboard boxes (refrigerator boxes are great for this).
  • Paint (can be acrylic or house)
  • Construction Paper
  • Poster Board
  • Different size brushes
  • Disposable paint roller (optional) - I like to use this for painting large areas.
  • Pictures of store fronts from Radiator Springs and one of the town.
  • Ruler
  • Pencil or sharpie
  • Odds and ends for decoration details.

If your making mini recreations, use cereal boxes, tissue boxes, paper towel rolls and other household items to make your "stores".

Disney Cars Entertainment

Lightning McQueen Balloon Car

Kids love balloons and they will go wild over these Lightning McQueen balloon cars.  Holly from The Twister Sisters will show you how to make these balloon cars.  Now, we must tell you that she is a professional but if you are feeling crafty, she will show you how it's done.  If you are considering hiring a balloon artist as entertainment, they probably know how to make this car.  Otherwise, show them a picture of this balloon czar and they can probably do it.  If you are planning on using a balloon artist, we suggest you have the artist make some in advance as each car does take about 9 minutes to make.

Lightning McQueen Video Tutorial 1

Lightning Mcqueen Balloon Car

Here's another great Lightning McQueen balloon car video tutorial that we really wanted to show you from Yonaimy.  While she too is a professional at her craft her balloon car "seems" a bit easier to do.  I say seem because I have attempted balloon swords and crowns which I think are the easiest to make, and I have trouble with those.  At the very least she makes "look" easy.   Give it try or if you are considering hiring a balloon artist, ask them if they can make them.  Like we suggested above, have the artist make some ahead of time.  Her video is in Spanish but it is well done and easy to follow.  There is one thing she mentions that I would like to share with you.  Her yellow color marker doesn't show well on the red and that is why she uses the black for the "95".  Also she explains that you can leave the leftover of the white balloon so you can turn the balloon into a wearable wristband.

Lightning McQueen Balloon Video Tutorial 2

The next 2 videos are from Ronzo the Clown, and they are not tutorials but he makes 3 wearable balloon cars that are just too cute, and we wanted to share them with you.
